EXCITING EVENTS IN HACKNEY FOR 2027

Coming soon for LGBTQ+ History Month in Hackney a staged reading of Son of a Gun (1976).
Originally devised by Sidewalk Theatre company and scripted by John Burrows, Son of a Gun is based on the life-story of working class lesbian Tasha Fairbanks, growing up in the 1950s and 60s. Along with Jill Posener’s Any Woman Can for Gay Sweatshop that same year, it was one of the first out lesbian plays in Britain and won Tash, in the central part of Brenda, a nomination as Best New Actress of 1976 in Plays and Players magazine.
On  Friday 12th February 2027 director Melissa Dunne and cast repeat the highly praised staged reading first presented at the FYFFI 2 Symposium ‘Dragging Up and Acting Out’ presented alongside the exhibition Homosexual Acts and Beyond.
